Leadership Skills Training

Updated: Oct 5, 2021

In 2020, Idea Academy asked me to offer a leadership training course called Leadership & Organisational Development. This was part of a Masters Programme for Management in Healthcare offered at MQF Level 7 training accredited by the NFCHE of Malta. As part of this training, I gave 30 hours worth of training on leadership & managerial skills to aspiring and current managers.

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES

The objectives of this module were to help the audience to examine what it means to be a leader and what strategies can be used to develop an organisation. The workshop looked at:

  1. Defining Leadership

  2. Examining what leaders can do and what styles they can use?

  3. Listing what tools are available for leaders to lead their teams?

  4. Exploring how to take complex problems within the organisation and find how to be part of the solution rather than being part of the problem?

  5. Applying motivation, performance and leadership theories to the place of work?

  6. Explore how to have self-awareness and self-development skills to become an impactful leader within the context of an organisation?

RESULTS & BENEFITS

The topic created a discussion about the challenges is working within large organisations and how this can leave a leader to feel depleted and powerless. We worked on how a leader can keep their focus on what can be done and through that find the resilience for themselves and their team to keep going. This helped participants to gain:

  1. Clarity: Be clear about what it means to be a leader to develop focus and reduce confusion.

  2. Respect: Rather than simply motivating employees with carrots and sticks, leaders can inspire without the need for coercion.

  3. Responsibility: Without taking responsibility, leaders wait for others to change. Taking responsibility makes managers change makers.

  4. Influence: Understanding one's emotions leads to understanding others. This helps to be empathic and to take decisions that help the team.

  5. Ability To Deal With Complex Problems: Understanding what a manager and leader can do in the face of complex problems.

  6. A Strategic Mindset: To be impactful, a leader needs to understand the big picture of how organisations operate.
